People use the two words as if they mean the same thing, and spas in Dubai do not always help, because plenty of menus list "reflexology" and deliver a foot rub. They are different practices with different aims, and knowing which one you are actually asking for changes what you get.

We offer a foot massage and we do not offer reflexology. This page explains why, and it should also help you decide what to book wherever you end up.

What a foot massage is

A foot massage is exactly that: massage applied to the feet and, done properly, the lower legs as well. The therapist works the arch, the heel, the ball of the foot, each toe, the ankle and the calf, using the same tools as any other massage: pressure, kneading, stretching, friction on the tight spots. The goal is muscular and circulatory. Tired feet feel lighter, the arch stops aching, the calf lets go, and the whole lower leg moves more freely afterwards.

That is the thing people want after a day on their feet, a long flight, a long walk through a mall, or a week in shoes that were a mistake. It is also the thing runners want when the plantar fascia starts complaining. We covered what it does in more depth in foot massage: what it does.

What reflexology is

Reflexology starts from a different idea: that specific points on the foot correspond to specific organs and systems elsewhere in the body, and that pressing those points affects the organ. A reflexologist works from a map, applying thumb pressure to zones rather than treating the foot as a foot.

It is an old practice with a lot of followers, and many people find a session deeply relaxing, which is real and worth something. The organ-map idea itself, the claim that pressing a point on the arch does something for the liver, has thin evidence behind it. That is not a criticism of the people who enjoy it. It is the reason we do not sell it: we are not comfortable charging for an effect we cannot stand behind.

How they feel different on the table

A foot massage covers the whole foot and calf with flowing, varied strokes and builds in intensity where the tissue is tight. It feels like the rest of a massage does, only aimed at the part of you that carried you around all day.

Reflexology is point work. Sustained thumb pressure on one spot, then the next, following the map. It stays on the foot and rarely goes above the ankle. Some points can be surprisingly tender, and a reflexologist will read that tenderness as meaningful.

If your feet hurt and you want them to stop hurting, the first one is what you are after.

Who a foot massage suits

Anyone whose day happens standing up: retail, hospitality, medical, teaching. Anyone who just got off a long flight into DXB. Runners and walkers, particularly when the arch or heel is sore in the morning. People who spent the day in heels or in shoes with no support. And a lot of guests who book it as an add-on to a full body session because the therapist doing a full body simply cannot give the feet the twenty minutes they need.

For a runner with a genuinely tight lower leg the better tool is often a sports massage that includes the feet, rather than a foot massage on its own. Tell reception what you did this week and they will steer you.

What a foot massage does not do

It does not treat plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, or anything with a diagnosis attached. It can make feet with those conditions feel better for a while, and that is not nothing, but the condition is a doctor's territory. If there is numbness, swelling that appeared suddenly, an open wound or an infection, book the doctor, not the table. If you have diabetes, tell us when you book; foot work needs to be adjusted.

Price

A foot massage is 60 minutes for AED 550, VAT included, in a private room. It pairs well with a full body massage as a second hour, and two guests booking together each pay 20% less. Everything else is on the price list.

FAQ

Is reflexology the same as a foot massage?
No. A foot massage treats the foot and lower leg as muscle and tissue; reflexology presses points on a map that are said to correspond to organs. Different aim, different technique, different feeling.

Why do you not offer reflexology?
Because we cannot stand behind the organ-map claim, and we do not sell effects we are not sure of. We offer a proper foot massage, which does what tired feet need.

Which one is better after a long flight?
A foot massage. Swelling and heaviness after a flight are circulatory and muscular, which is exactly what a foot and calf massage works on.

Can I add a foot massage to a full body session?
Yes, and it is one of the most common combinations here. A full body therapist cannot give the feet twenty focused minutes; a second hour can.

Is it safe if I have diabetes?
Usually, with adjusted pressure and a look at the skin first. Tell us when you book so the therapist knows before starting.
