Most of the nervousness before a first massage is about not knowing the sequence: what you take off, who is in the room, whether you are supposed to talk, what happens if the pressure is wrong. None of it is complicated, and once you know the order it stops being a thing to think about. This is the whole visit, from the message you send to book to the moment you leave, as it works at U Spa and, with small differences, at any proper spa in Dubai.
Before you arrive
Book by WhatsApp or phone and say three things: what you would like, when, and what you want fixed if anything hurts. "Swedish, tonight around 21:00, left shoulder is stiff" is a complete booking. If you do not know what to choose, say so; reception will ask two questions and pick. For a first visit, Swedish or aromatherapy are the safe starts, and types of massage explained sorts the rest of the menu by problem.
Eat something light beforehand rather than nothing or a full dinner. Skip alcohol; it makes the pressure feel wrong and leaves you dizzy on the way out. Arrive about ten minutes early. Every room here has its own shower, so you do not need to arrive freshly washed, though many guests prefer to.
What to wear and what to bring
Wear whatever you came in; you change in the private room, not in a shared area. Underneath, it is your choice: most guests undress fully for a massage and some keep underwear on, and the therapist works either way. You are covered with a towel or sheet throughout, and only the part of the body being worked on is uncovered at any moment. For the Moroccan bath, swimwear is normal; ask at reception when you book and they will tell you what to bring.
Bring nothing essential. A hair tie if your hair is long. Leave jewellery and a watch at home, because oil and clasps are a bad combination and you will take them off anyway. Put the phone on silent before you go in, not after.
What happens at reception
You confirm the treatment and the length, and you are asked a few short questions: how firm you like the pressure, whether anything hurts, whether there is anything to avoid, any health matter the therapist should know about, including pregnancy or a recent injury. Answer plainly; nobody is judging and the answers shape the hour. Then you are shown to your room.
In the room
The therapist steps out while you undress and lie face down on the table under the sheet, with your face in the padded cradle at the top. They knock before coming back. The lights are low, the room is warm, and the session starts with the back, which is where almost everyone carries the week.
You do not have to talk. Some guests chat for a few minutes and then stop, most say nothing from start to finish, and either is normal. The only words that matter are the two that adjust the session: firmer, lighter. Say them the moment you think them. Therapists cannot read a wince through a sheet, and nobody is offended by an instruction.
Halfway through you turn over, with the sheet held up so you are never uncovered, and the front of the legs, the arms, the shoulders and the head are done. At the end the therapist leaves again, you lie still for a minute, and then dress at your own pace.
If you booked the Moroccan bath
The sequence is different and you do even less. You sit in the steam for ten minutes, the therapist applies black soap and leaves it to work, then scrubs with a kessa glove and rinses you down. You do not wash yourself at any point; the whole ritual is done for you. Expect the scrub to lift visible rolls of grey from the skin, which is the point and is normal.
Afterwards
Drink a glass of water, sit for a few minutes before you stand, and do not plan anything demanding for the next hour. Mild soreness the day after a firm session is normal; after a gentle one, rare. The spa is open until 05:00, and night sessions cost the same as daytime, so if the first visit has to be late, it can be; the details are on the late-night page.
Tipping
Tipping is not expected and nobody will ask. Guests who want to leave something give it in cash to the therapist at the end, and it is appreciated; guests who do not are treated exactly the same next time.
How long to allow
The treatment time plus about twenty minutes: ten before for the questions and changing, ten after for lying still and dressing. A 60-minute massage is an hour and twenty of your evening. Which length to book is its own question, answered in how long a massage should be.

FAQ
Do I have to be fully undressed?
No. Most guests are, some keep underwear on, and the therapist works either way. You are covered by a sheet throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered.
Can I talk during the massage?
Yes, and you can also say nothing at all; both are normal. The only words that matter are "firmer" and "lighter", and they are welcome at any point.
Should I shower before I come?
It is not necessary; every room has its own shower and you can use it before or after. Arriving straight from the office is fine.
Is it fine to come alone?
Yes, and most guests do. Rooms are private, and men and women book in equal numbers; there is a page written for men visiting for the first time if that is the question behind the question.
What if I am running late?
Message reception. A few minutes is absorbed; more than that and the session is shortened rather than moved, because the next guest is booked. Night slots have more give than evening ones.
