Most men book their first massage about two years later than they should, and usually because something finally hurt. The delay is rarely about money. It is about not knowing what happens in the room, which is a solvable problem and the entire subject of this page.

Here is the hour, start to finish.

Before you go

Book by message rather than by phone if that is easier: WhatsApp works, and describing the problem in two lines gets you a better recommendation than picking a name off a menu. Say what hurts, how long you have, and whether you have had a massage before.

Eat something light an hour or two ahead, not immediately before. Skip the heavy gym session that morning if you can; a body that has just trained is harder to work on and sorer afterwards. Arrive five or ten minutes early rather than exactly on time, so the hour on the table stays a full hour.

Bring nothing. Towels, linen, robe and slippers are provided, there is a shower in the room, and the parking at the hotel is free.

What actually happens

You are shown to a private room with its own shower. The therapist steps out, you undress to your comfort level, and lie face down under a sheet. Underwear stays on if you prefer; most guests keep it and nobody thinks about it either way. The sheet stays over you throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered at any moment.

Then two questions: what hurts, and how firm. Both are worth answering properly. "Right shoulder, worse after driving, about three months" produces a very different hour from "everything, thanks".

The first ten minutes are broad and warming. Then the therapist narrows to the problem area and stays there. Firm work on a tight band feels strong and slightly uncomfortable in a specific, satisfying way; sharp pain is not part of it, and one word changes the pressure within a stroke. The useful vocabulary is two words long: firmer, lighter.

At the end you get a few minutes to sit up slowly, a shower if you want one, and water. Nobody rushes you out.

Which treatment to book first

Pick by problem, not by name.

One specific knot you can point to. Deep tissue, 60 minutes. Slow pressure into one area until it lets go.

You train and you are sore. Sports massage, booked within a day or two of the hard session. Legs for runners, shoulders and back for lifters.

Everything is tight and nothing is specific. Ninety minutes of classic or full-body work. An hour is not enough to cover a whole body properly, whatever the menu implies.

A stiff back that flinches at pressure. Hot stone. Heat opens the tissue so the same result needs less force, and it is the treatment men most often dismiss and then rebook.

You want the thing you cannot do at home. The Moroccan bath: steam, black soap, then a kessa glove scrub. First-timers are sceptical for about four minutes. It is 45 minutes for the standard version, an hour for the Royal.

The etiquette questions men actually ask

Do I have to talk? No. Say what you need at the start and then say nothing for an hour if you prefer. Silence is the default, not an awkwardness.

Can I ask for a different therapist? Yes, when booking. Our team is predominantly female; tell us your preference and we will say who is available that evening rather than promise in advance.

Is tipping expected? No. It is discretionary in the UAE, usually AED 20 to 50 if you liked the session, and nothing happens if you leave nothing.

What if it hurts? Say so immediately. Adjusting pressure is routine, not a complaint, and a therapist would far rather hear it during the hour than read it in a review.

What if I fall asleep? Extremely common. The therapist keeps working.

What it costs

A classic 60-minute session is AED 600, deep tissue or sports AED 750, hot stone AED 700, and a Moroccan bath AED 550. VAT is inside every number and the room, shower and towels are part of the rate. Before 15:00 the Early Bird rate brings a classic hour to AED 400, and two men booking together each pay 20% less, which is how most pairs do it. Everything is on the price list.

After the first one

The pattern we see is consistent: the first booking is a rescue mission, the second happens about six weeks later, and by the third most men are on a monthly rhythm because they noticed their back stopped being a background process. Once a month is the honest maintenance interval for an office body; weekly is for a specific problem until it resolves.

The full men's menu, with what gets booked most and what it costs, is on the massage for men page. Booking is a WhatsApp message to +971 56 735 5473: describe the problem, we will pick the treatment.

FAQ

Do spas in Dubai accept male guests?
Yes. At U Spa around half of all bookings are men, with no separate hours and no restrictions.

What do I wear during a massage?
Undress to your comfort level and keep underwear on if you prefer. You are covered by a sheet throughout and only the area being treated is uncovered.

Which massage is best for men?
There is no men's massage as such. Most male guests book deep tissue or sports massage because they arrive with firm-pressure problems, but the menu is the same for everyone.

How much is a massage for men in Dubai?
The same as for anyone: AED 600 for a classic hour at U Spa, AED 750 for deep tissue or sports, AED 400 on the Early Bird rate before 15:00.

Should I shower before or after?
Before is polite, after is optional and available in the room. Oil left on the skin for a few hours does no harm.

Can I book late after work?
Yes, we take sessions until 05:00, which is later than almost anywhere else in the city.

How often should a man get a massage?
Monthly for maintenance, weekly or fortnightly while an actual problem is being resolved, then back to monthly.
